Dubai's second Etihad Rail station planned for Meydan, linked to Metro Gold Line

Dubai is set to gain a second station on the national Etihad Rail passenger network, this time in Meydan, according to statements by transport officials reported by The National on 14 September 2026. The station is planned to connect directly with the future Metro Gold Line, extending intercity rail access closer to the centre of the city.

The Rail Agency's chief executive, Abdul Muhsen Kalbat, said one of the future stations would be in Meydan and integrated with the Gold Line station, according to The National, 14 September 2026. This would follow the first Dubai passenger stop, the Al Yalayis station, which reports say opens on 30 September 2026 on the city's edge.

The exact timeline for the Meydan station has not been disclosed. Officials also confirmed plans for a high-speed link between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, though without giving a date.

Part of a wider transport push

RTA officials framed the plans around a shift towards public transport. Moaza Al Marri, of the RTA's Executive Affairs Sector, was quoted saying the future is public transport, not roads, because added road capacity fills with cars. Nol card integration with Etihad Rail is described as ready, letting passengers use one card across rail and city transport.

The Meydan station is intended to connect with metro, buses, cycling routes and walkways. The Gold Line itself is scheduled to open on 9 September 2032, while the Metro Blue Line, reported as 24 per cent complete, is due on 9 September 2029. A separate Airport Express Line of 55 kilometres and five stations is planned between the two airports.
